How To Choose a Suitable Vacuum Brazing Furnace

When choosing a vacuum brazing furnace, the first step is to clearly define your process requirements: what materials will be brazed (aluminum alloy, stainless steel, or titanium alloy), the required temperature range, the maximum size of the workpiece, and the expected output. These directly determine the basic specifications of the equipment. Based on this, focus on six key performance indicators:

1. Vacuum Degree and Pressure Rise Rate: The working vacuum degree must meet the material’s oxidation-free requirements (10⁻¹~10⁻³ Pa for aluminum alloys, and above 10⁻⁴ Pa for titanium alloys). The pressure rise rate (≤0.2 Pa/h in cold state) reflects long-term pressure holding capacity better than the ultimate vacuum.

2. Temperature Performance: The maximum temperature should be 50~100℃ higher than the process temperature. The temperature field uniformity within the effective heating zone should be ±3~±5℃ (depending on accuracy requirements). Always request a measured temperature field report.

3. Effective Heating Zone Size: It must be larger than the total size of the workpiece feeding rack; a 10%~20% margin is recommended.

4. Heating and Insulation: Select heating elements according to temperature (iron-chromium-aluminum for low temperatures, molybdenum or graphite for medium and high temperatures; use graphite with caution for titanium alloys to prevent carbon contamination). The insulation layer should be made of high-quality alumina fiber or multi-layer screen.

5. Cooling Method: Natural cooling is the slowest, air cooling is moderate, and gas quenching (3-6 bar high-pressure nitrogen) is the fastest. Choose according to production volume and material cooling speed requirements.

6. Vacuum Pump Set and Control System: The pump set must ensure sufficient pumping speed. The control system should have PLC multi-segment program temperature control, process curve storage, and safety protection functions.

Finally, conduct on-site inspections of the manufacturer’s qualifications, warranty period, and after-sales response time. Request performance data under full-load high temperature and, if possible, test-fire samples for verification. Do not only look at no-load limit parameters or low bare-metal quotes; include the cost of vacuum pumps, chillers, and other accessories, and confirm that the furnace space has sufficient margin for tooling. Make the final decision based on a comprehensive consideration of equipment performance, energy consumption, and the entire life cycle cost of after-sales service.
