Advantages of Plasma Nitriding Piston Rings
The surface hardness of the piston ring is improved by plasma nitriding (≥ 700HV0.1), the friction torque is small, the friction coefficient is small, the friction reduction performance is good, and the wear resistance is high, which prolongs the service life of the piston ring.
The surface crystal structure of the friction pair of the ring and the cylinder liner is changed by plasma nitriding of the piston ring, which improves the anti-seizure of the piston ring and the ability to resist the cylinder.
Plasma Nitrided Piston Rings
The surface roughness of the piston ring after plasma nitriding is slightly lower than the original, which is beneficial to the initial running-in of the ring and the cylinder. During nitriding, the graphite of the matrix cannot be covered by the nitriding layer, and the graphite still maintains its original oil storage and lubricating properties. Moreover, the temperature of the running-in contact surface of the nitriding sample is lower than that of the non-nitriding sample, which is conducive to the establishment of a lubricating oil film when the ring moves at high speed in the cylinder liner.
Compared with other nitriding methods, plasma nitriding has fast nitriding speed, power saving, low gas consumption, no pollution to the environment, stable quality, and low cost during nitriding.
