Vacuum heat treatment process of mold
Mould is an important process equipment for the manufacture of products in various industrial sectors of machinery and light industry. More than 70% of the parts of automobiles, tractors, motors, electrical appliances and instrumentation products, 80% to 90% of plastic products, and 60% to 70% of daily hardware and durable consumer goods must be produced with molds. Without molds, it is impossible to have the development of modern industrial products. The mold industry is known as the “king of metal processing”. All countries attach great importance to the development of molds.
Mold material and heat treatment technology are the key factors affecting the quality, performance and service life of the mold. 60% of the early failure of the mold is caused by material and heat treatment factors. Therefore, materials and heat treatment are very important for the development of die industry.
Among the causes of die failure, 60% are caused by improper material selection, material use and heat treatment. In order to improve the level of reasonable material selection and use of dies and develop the level of heat treatment technology, fully tap the performance potential of die materials, and extend the service life of dies, it is an effective measure to improve the service life of dies by adopting new die materials and strengthening and toughening and surface strengthening treatment processes.
The die manufacturer shall select rolled materials or forgings of different quality grades and price levels from ordinary electric furnace, external refining, electroslag remelting and vacuum electroslag according to the importance and life requirements of parts. During the heat treatment and heating process of parts, decarburization, carburization and alloy element depletion on the surface will lead to early cracking of parts in use. Therefore, vacuum heat treatment must be adopted, which is especially important for parts that have been finished, formed and reprocessed. The residual harmful gases and some non-metallic inclusions in the steel are first diffused from the inside to the surface under the vacuum heating condition, and then are separated from the workpiece and discharged out of the furnace to complete further vacuum purification of the workpiece under the solid phase transformation.
Vacuum heat treatment
After the application of vacuum heat treatment process in the world’s major countries, about 30% of the equipment is used simultaneously for the heat treatment of products and molds. The moulds used for vacuum heat treatment include cold heading mould, braising mould, thread rolling mould, die-casting mould and other precision moulds. Using vacuum heat treatment can increase the life of die casting die by 1~7 times, and the life of thread rolling plate by 3~5 times.
The vacuum heat treatment process generally consists of the following processes: blanking → forging die blanks → normalizing and high temperature tempering → mechanical roughing → high temperature tempering → finishing → vacuum carburizing → vacuum quenching, vacuum tempering → grinding and polishing → assembly. At present, the ceramic molds treated by vacuum quenching process have been put into production on a large scale, and the phenomenon of excessive mold deformation and low hardness is rare, and good economic and social benefits have been achieved.
